with the people of Cambodia

Mr. David Chin is the Honorary Consul of Cambodia to Kentucky.  As the Honorary Consul, it is Mr. Chin's philosophy that understanding and friendship can best be achieved through economic exchange.  For this reason Mr. Chin will be focusing on facilitating trade between the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the Kingdom of Cambodia, while at the same time offering traditional consular services to Cambodian Americans and Americans seeking visas to Cambodia.  Mr. Chin is an entrepreneur and has created hundreds of jobs in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  To learn more about Mr. Chin's background, click here.

Mr. Chin will be working closely with Ambassador Bunrong Chum, the Cambodian Ambassador to the United States, to promote friendship and trade between Cambodia and the United States.  Mr. Chum has a history of fighting for his country and for fighting for the interests of the United States.  Mr. Chum's goals for his ambassadorship are to demonstrate to the American investment and corporate community that the Cambodian government is committed to promoting an economic environment that is mutually beneficial to the citizens of Cambodia and to corporate interests.

The Kingdom of Cambodia is a young constitutional democracy.  After emerging from the atrocities of the reign of the Khmer Rouge, the Cambodian people adopted a constitution that provides for a free democratic process.  Cambodia has a population of about 15.5 million people and has a land mass of 68,898 square miles (as compared to 40,409 square miles for the Commonwealth of Kentucky).  The primary industries in Cambodia are textiles, agriculture, tourism, casino gaming, construction and energy.  The Honorary Consul of Cambodia to Kentucky seeks to identify and promote relationships that provide mutual benefit to both the people of Cambodia and Kentucky.

What is an Honorary Consul

A consul is an official representative of the government of one state in the territory of another, normally acting to assist and protect the citizens of the consul's own country, and to facilitate trade and friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
